Dendrobates tinctorius, known by the Indian name of okopipi, is a frog belonging to the Dendrobatidae family.
Dendrobates tinctorius is a small frog, between 3 and 4.5 centimetres long and weighing around 8 grams.
The species shows a marked polymorphism with regards to the colour of its livery. Some specimens, present in the Sipaliwini district of Suriname, characterised by a bright blue colouration fragmented by black dots, had in the past been considered as a separate species but recent genetic studies have demonstrated that it is only a morphological variant. The frog's skin is rich in glands that secrete powerful alkaloids that the frog uses as a natural defense against predators.
