Phodopus campbelli, commonly known as the Russian dwarf hamster or Campbell's hamster, is one of three species of hamster in the genus Phodopus and is often easily confused with Phodopus sungorus (which is another of the three species, known as the "Siberian hamster" or "winter white").
It is native to Northern Russia, Central Asia and Northern China and is therefore also commonly known as the Russian hamster or Campbell hamster.
The Campbell is a nocturnal animal and does not hibernate.
It is omnivorous, meaning it feeds on plants, insects and cereals.
It has paraoral sacs that extend from the mouth to the hind legs.
It lives on average two or three years.
