The lop-eared rabbit is a variety of domestic rabbit that was first obtained in England during the nineteenth century through genetic selection.
This is the name given to all those rabbits characterised by drooping ears at the sides and the inability to move them.
However, the lop rabbit is recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) as a true breed, which is further divided into five different varieties.
They relate very well to humans, in fact they can even live indoors.
The lop-eared rabbit is one of the most popular and widespread domestic rabbit breeds in the world, thanks to its docile nature and distinctive appearance.
With their long, floppy ears and sweet muzzle, it's easy to see why these rabbits are so popular as pets.
Dimensions and weight
The size of a lop rabbit can vary greatly depending on the variety. The Dwarf Lop, for example, weighs between 1.2 and 2 kg, while the French Lop can exceed 5 kg.
Character
Lop rabbits are known for their calm and affectionate temperament. They are social animals that enjoy company, both from humans and other rabbits. However, like all rabbits, they take time to adjust to people and can be shy at first.
I wait
In addition to its floppy ears, the lop-eared rabbit is characterized by a compact, muscular body. Its coat can be of various colors and textures, from smooth to velvety, and requires regular grooming to keep it in good condition.
