Chinchillas are a genus of rodents native to South America, more precisely from the Andes.
Their appearance is very reminiscent of a large squirrel (their weight varies between 300 and 800 grams) with a gait similar to that of a rabbit.
It has very fine, soft fur that helps it maintain a constant body temperature, round red, dark, or blue/purple eyes, and large ears.
The latter are the only organ in the chinchilla that has the task of lowering body temperature, they are in fact rich in capillaries.
Character : The chinchilla is generally a very docile animal that never bites.
This varies from specimen to specimen, however.
You will therefore find a chinchilla that can be cuddled and picked up without any problem but also one that does not like being touched and handled.
For this reason it is important to indulge its preferences, avoiding forcing it into certain contacts such as caresses or picking it up if this bothers it. Each chinchilla has its own specific way of interacting with its owner (a person that this animal can recognise) and its own character which must be respected.
