The domestic canary is a popular cage bird, a domesticated form of the Atlantic canary.
The common name of the domestic canary comes from the Canary Islands, where its ancestral form originates.
Canaries are very rustic and frugal birds: often raised individually in small cages, the ideal for them is a 120 cm cage or an aviary, where several specimens can be housed, also given their sociability outside of the mating season, when couples tend to keep to themselves and be slightly territorial towards any intruders who might come too close to the nest.
